Outline of my training

Below you can see the Schools of Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy that I have completed training with.  I firmly believe that it is necessary to undertake and complete thorough training in all aspects of the profession so that the therapist has a broad range of skills to call upon to assist the client.  That is what I feel sets me apart, in that, I have completed training with not just one but a number of different Schools of Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy.  Thus I have a very comprehensive overview of the main approaches within the Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy profession.  This means that I can select from and use a wide range of practical skills as well as having a very in depth knowledge base from which to work from.

In addition I feel it is essential that a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist has undergone In House training where one sees techniques demonstrated by skilled teachers and then one practises these techniques with real life problems under the watchful eye of the trainers.  Feedback and advice is provided to the student to enable them to become skilled therapists themselves.  In House training also includes knowledge seminars and provides the opportunity for questions and answers as well as structured debate.  Good In House training such as the training that I have done, also includes visiting trainers who are specialists in their field.  The In House training course also provides detailed course notes for study both at the time and in the future.  As well a network of colleagues is built up for the future.

Distance Learning Schools and Colleges can be very useful in addition to In House training. In my professional opinion Distance Learning on its own, is not sufficient for the professional therapist.  However, in conjunction with good In House training, then Distance Learning courses which are examinable and have coursework to complete can be excellent in gaining knowledge and being tested on that knowledge.

The Schools and Colleges listed below which I have trained at are validated and accredited by Professional Bodies and thus provide structured training with the necessary combination of both theoretical knowledge and practical experience.  I also believe that it is necessary that the Training Establishment, that one chooses should have been established for some time.  Only that way, do I feel, can one be assured of the integrity of the courses, since they will be built from a platform of experience of what works and what does not.  Knowledge is not gained over night, it comes from practice.  Thus I chose Training Establishments that had a proven track record.  In my mind I also wish to maintain links with my Training Establishments and thus the fact that they have stood the test of time and continue to provide updated courses means that I too can continue to learn via CPD and Supervision.  I hope that you will take the time to look closely at each of the Establishments that I carefully selected to train at.

Dominic Beirne School Of Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy

The Dominic Beirne School of Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy is I feel at the forefront of the Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy profession.  The courses provided at his Training School are some of the best I have ever experienced, in fact excellence is a word that springs to mind.  I completed thorough In House training in Clinical Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy, Hypnotism, NLP and EMDR.  The training was very much hands on with a wealth of practical experience being gained.  Practice was carefully supervised in a supportive manner and I felt nurtured from start to finish. Dominic has superb qualities as a Senior Trainer, he has trained with some of the world's foremost authorities in the field, as well as regularly lecturing and demonstrating Hypnosis.  Add to that a comprehensive team of Co - Trainers each with their own unique strengths, then one can be assured of quality. During my time with Dominic's establishment I have found my skills have gone from strength to strength.  I can state with integrity that his School provides thorough training in all aspects of the profession, so that a trainee feels highly equipped to enter the profession with a flying start. Even from a personal development point of view the courses provided by his School are worth their weight in gold. The Essex Institute of Clinical Hypnosis

The Essex Institute of Clinical Hypnosis provides brilliant training in Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy as well as other disciplines relating to the field.  I trained with this School originally and found the training to be highly professional with a wealth of knowledge being gained.  I also feel that the Principal Terrence Watts has structured the courses to reflect the vast amount of practical experience and knowledge that he has gained from his many years as a full time, busy, successful therapist, who originally trained  in Harley Street.  Terrence Watts is an international trainer and presenter and also a published author and co-author.  All in all I highly recommend the Institute and feel that its Professional Practitioner Course which I studied is second to none.  To find out more about The Essex Institute of Clinical Hypnosis, click here:

Uncommon Knowledge

I have studied a range of course materials with Uncommon Knowledge.  In my professional opinion Uncommon Knowledge are at the forefront of the Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy profession.  Their products are of the highest calibre and their training courses and training products are simply superb.  I have studied Indirect and Conversational Hypnosis with them.  The approach is based on the work of perhaps the most famous Hypnotherapist of all time, namely Milton Erickson.  Ericksonian Hypnosis is indirect and allows the client to construct their own images and thoughts and feelings whilst in hypnotic trance.  This is different from the Old School of Direct or Authoritarian Hypnosis which tended to tell the client exactly what to do and how to do it.

In essence since all Hypnosis is effectively Self Hypnosis, it is the Client who is the best judge of how to go into Trance and how to deepen that Trance state so that the healing work can be done.  The Therapist acts as a skilled guide and facilitator of the process, monitoring and suggesting but not leading the client into the Hypnotic State.

The skill then comes in the Therapist utilising this induced Trance like state to create positive changes in the Client to alleviate and in some cases permanently remove the old outdated patterns of behaviour so that full health is restored in mind, body and spirit.  Ericksonian Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy does this gently and easily.  It really is a wonderful method of deep healing.

Lionheart Training

I have had the priviledge to undergo Advanced Study with Steve Burgess one of the foremost Hypnotherapy Trainers in the Country.  Steve Burgess is the Founder of Lionheart Training, which was established in the mid 1990's to provide high quality Training Courses in Advanced aspects of Hypnotherapy.

I have completed an Advanced Course of study and instruction in Pain Management and Control utilising Hypnoesitherapy which is a combination of Hypnosis and Noesitherapy.  This was done when Steve Burgess gave his Advanced Training Seminar in this unique approach to Pain Management and Control at the Dominic Beirne School of Clinical Hypnosis and Psychotherapy.

I fully intend to complete more courses with Steve Burgess as I have found him to be highly professional, very personable and a unique and skilled facilitator of the material which he presents.  He definitely is at the cutting edge of Hypnotherapy as well as Advanced Applications of Hypnotherapy and I highly recommend him.

Continuing Professional Development

I have completed a considerable amount of CPD including study of materials by a broad range of Therapy Schools.  I have looked into and studied the work of the Mindfield's College and the Human Givens Approach to Psychology, which I feel is excellent.  I have also completed study with Keith Livingston who is an excellent NLP Coach and Hypnotherapy Trainer.  I have materials by Jamie Smart of Salad Training as well as Michael Breen who is at the forefront of NLP training. I have a huge collection of Hypnotherapy, NLP and Psychotherapy books in my growing library as well as a vast array of Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy and NLP DVD's and Training Manuals.  My personal investment into ongoing training is significant.

I will continue to invest in the works of Trainers who are at the highest levels of their professions.  I believe in doing at least one if not more Advanced Seminars each year where I can gain hands on practical training.  This can then be enhanced by Distance Learning.

In my professional opinion In House Practical Training is a must for any serious practitioner of Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy.  However after that it is perfectly reasonable to undergo Distance Learning as it is both flexible and fits in with the needs of the busy working professional Therapist.  As I have personally studied with three main professional accredited Training Schools, I have a very firm basis on which to carefully select Advanced Seminars and highly professional Distance Learning formats to maximise my professional skills and knowledge for the continued benefit of my Clients.
